Katie Kaiser Rich- Youth and Family Minister
Katie interned with us last summer and we are so excited to have her back in this new position. What brought her back? She missed everyone at Salem like family.
Katie was born and raised in Duluth and is a graduate of Augsburg College where she received a degree in Youth and Family Ministry with a minor in Psychology. Being involved with her home congretation, VBS, confirmation and sunday school led her to choose her major. According to katie it was the best case scenario for her- to have a career in something she loves to do- and it shows.
Katie is excited to be the first Youth and Family Minister at Salem. She sees her purpose is to love and nuture faith in youth and families so they can love and nuture the faith in others. Katie says, 'It's all about empowering others, which goes hand in hand with our mission statement." Her goals this summer are to have Sunday school and confirmation activities and rebuild the YAPP program.
Katie is a newlywed. She and her husband recently moved to Hermantown where she is going to take up gardening. Her hobbies include scrap booking, card making, learning how to cook and anything outdoors like snowshoeing and taking walks.

Judy Hane- Music Coordinator & Senior Choir Director
Judy has been the music coordinator and senior choir director at Salem since 1982. She took over those duties a week after her husband, Dick, became the new pastor at Salem. As music coordinator, Judy plans and coordinates our worship music. Judy also plays piano and organ for many services and other church events. Judy began taking music lessons at age seven, and her passion for music really shows.
Although Pastor Hane retired a few years ago, Dick and Judy remained at Salem- lucky for us! When pastors retire they are counseled to leave the congregation, but Judy said, "No way! All my friends are at Salem and Salem is like family to us."
Judy is a retired dental anesthesia assistant. Her hobbies include camping, gardening, scrapbooking, and music. She and Dick have ridden in the annual Bike For Hunger bike ride since it's beginning in 1988.
Lisa Zumhofe- Organist
Although Lisa is officially listed as Salem's organist, she also plays a mean piano. In fact, the piano is her choice of instruments as she majored in Piano Pedagogy at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. She also majored in Music Education-Vocal. Lisa plays most band instruments as she used to teach middle school band.
Lise came to Salem for a job, but became a member because, "the congregation is open and loving and friendly.' Lisa enjoys her position at Salem because she can play whatever she wants and she likes the kinds of music she gets to play. Lisa also has a vocal gift and sings with Salem's vocal group, Joyful Noise.
Lisa teaches piano and voice at UMD's Fine Arts Academy and teaches piano at Holy Rosary School.
